FROM 28. 4. TILL 5. 12. 2017 Santini celebrates an anniversary. 340 years of genius of Baroque architecture

One winter day in February of the year 1677, at Prague's Hradčany, a child was born who was not expected to continue in the trade of his father, who was a successful mason. A part of his body was paralyzed. Over time, however, the young boy admirably put up with his handicap and became an architect with a marvelous artistic imagination and courage.

Up to a hundred of Santini´s buildings

Jan Blažej Santini – Aichel (1677–1723) started his successful career at Sedlec near the town of Kutná Hora by restoring the monastery cathedral in the Baroque-Gothic style. At that time he was only 25 years old. During his short creative life, Jan Blažej Santini - Aichel (1677-1723) designed almost a hundred of other buildings scattered throughout the territory of Bohemia and Moravia. Apart from Prague, we can find them in the areas of the Cistercian monasteries in Sedlec, Plasy and Žďár nad Sázavou, the Benedictine monasteries in Rajhrad and Kladruby, or in their surroundings and places of pilgrimage. What is amazing about his architecture is, above all, diversity, abundance of impressive details, sophisticated technical solutions, and moreover – a secret hidden under the surface. . .
